A lot of shooters who are heavy into AR's look down at DPMS for various reasons, but I've built an M-4gery and an A2 style AR-15 out of DPMS parts in the past. I didn't keep either of them very long, but I thought they were pretty decent parts and I had no trouble with the guns on the range.

Never tried their.308's, but I have read that they weren't debugged all that well. IIRC, these were the models that used FAL magazines, which is a different design from the M-14/AR-10 style mags. They used a modified bolt, and had problems with stress cracking on the locking lugs.

I don't know how widespread the problem was, so it may just be internet hype, too. I would avoid the older cast receivers personally (that's any receiver where the serial number doesn't start with an 'F'), but you don't see them around too much anymore anyway. I agree that DPMS is a lesser manufacrurer. Their quality is not on par with the ABC's. Many a gun show special is a DPMS lower with a Model 1 upper slapped on. I saw several of them last weekend at a show. For an entry level gun, I guess they are fine but if you are planning on keeping it and actually putting some rounds down the pipe I would look elsewhere.

Colt Bushmaster Armalite Rock River Arms Stag Arms are where I would go to get a turn key rifle. If you want to build one there are even better options! I don't want to sound 'Aggrivating' or anything to that but I have to ask. DPMS heavily supports 'action shooting' and 3-gun type shooting sports and many, many, many of those folks who shoot THOUSANDS of rounds a year out of their DPMS rifles and SWEAR by them so why then is the DPMS stuff 'LESSER'???? One would think that since these people are out pushing the envelope for performance out of thier equipment the truly 'BEST' platform would show up.no matter who made it. I was at the Ft. Benning 3-gun challenge and tried to keep a general track and this is what I saw most.

DPMS, Bushmaster, Rock River, Colt in that order of most to least. AND in Heavy metal (real MAN rifles) M1A (mostly Springfields) FN/FAL DPMS (My Ar-s are Bushmaster, and DPMS and I have no complaints about either) Hopalong.

So any help will help, including any hacks already discovered to give me starting place, depending how game is structured id like do one of two. Hack star trek online cheat engine.

I have two DPMS rifles, one varmint type with a 24 inch stainless barrel in 223 and an LR-308. I have had the 223 for several years and it is very accurate (1/2 to 3/4 inch groups with 69 grain sierra BTHP Match are common at 100 yds) and I have had zero problems with it.

The 308 is new. I am still going through the barrel break-in process with it.

Since I was able to get some Remington 150 grain power points on sale after Thanksgiving I am using them for the break-in. While this is good ammo it is not match quality but I have been able to shot some 1 inch groups with it. Fit and finish of the 308 is excellent and I anticipate that its accuracy will improve with match ammo. I would not hesitate to buy DPMS again.

FWIW.I have two DPMS rifles in 5.56x45 cal. One in the M-4 config. And the other in the A-2 config.

Both fit and finish is excellent, both shoot very well, the A-2 is very acurrate from what I can tell( it is more accurrate than I am able to take advantage of) both have functioned flawlessly. I have a pre-ban colt and the fit and finish on the DPMS beats the Colt hands down IMHO. Cannot draw a comparison as far as function goes with my Colt because it is NIB unfired. I would not hesitate to buy a DPMS again.

Two thumbs up. I purchased the A-2 in `93 0r early `94 and the M-4 I bought in`05.

I don't care for DI AR's anymore but DPMS's 308's are some of the last I'd buy if I did and wanted a new.308 AR. It's not just that I've never found the parts they make and use to be some of the best quality but in the.308's cases they use 6066 T6 extruded aluminum for the upper receiver and billet 6061 T6 for the lower. I mean come on, forged 7075 T6 is a soft enough metal as is for a rifles receiver's to than go ahead and use aluminum alloys with about half it's tensile strength. I'd save and buy a POF.308 if it was me, but in this case I'd rather have one of RRA's new one's instead or an Armalite AR10.
